DICOM Router
The exchange of radiological images is defined by the DICOM standard, and the exchange of textual information by the HL7 standard. Within the meaning of a workflow approach, both standards have been refined and integrated into IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) since 1998. However, many older imaging modalities do not support these integration profiles.
To allow correction of the DICOM objects, a suitable device has to connect to an existing channel between two PACS devices. In case of import and export, such a device provides routing functionalities between two subnets, which also give the project its name. To achieve the highest possible degree of flexibility the authors have developed DICOM router [1], a processing device as a toolbox of functions that can perform data modifications automatically and unattended.
